U.S - Teen Girls Rule as Music
Influencers, Spenders
By Robyn Greenspan - clickZ // February
9, 2004
It may come as no surprise that teens spend a lot of time
perusing music sites, listening to song samples, buying tunes and
gathering concert information online, but what might be found
unusual is that girls are doing most of it. A September 2003 Jupiter
Research (a unit of this site's corporate parent) survey of more
than 1,800 teens from the Ipsos-NPD online consumer panel found that
girls are more likely to pursue music activities, and spend money
too, than their male counterparts.

CDs Are A Better Value Than Ever!
RIAA - 22 de mayo 2002
Even without taking into account substantial improvements in product
quality, the cost of recorded music to consumers has fallen
dramatically since CDs were introduced in 1983. Between 1983 and
2001, the average retail price of a CD fell by 32%. Over this same
period, consumer prices (measured by the CPI) rose 77.8%. If CD
prices had risen at the same rate as the CPI over this period, the
average retail price of a CD in 2001 would have been $38.23 instead
of $14.64. While the price of CDs has fallen, the amount of music
provided on a typical CD has increased substantially and enhanced
CDs offer video entertainment in addition to music. |

Digital Downloads in D Minor

Online music sales quickly became established as a solid category
among the top online retail sectors. Ever since internet users first
started buying online, music has not only held its own with other
top "killer categories," it has surpassed several of them. However,
the basic model of buying CDs online is being challenged by the wide-spread
adoption of digital downloading. |
