REPORTS UPCOMING HARRY POTTER MOVIE CASTS A SPELL On Children And
Adults Of All Ages
Report Reveals Four Out Of Five Children Who Read
Harry Potter Plan To See Movie
PORT WASHINGTON, NEW YORK, November 8, 2001 - Seventy-nine
percent of children between the ages of 6-17 who have read Harry
Potter books plan to see the upcoming Harry Potter movie, Harry
Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, according to a report from
leading marketing information provider NPDFunworldSM.
NPD’s Harry Potter tracking report, The NPD Harry Potter
Prophet, reveals that previews, advertising and PR have
increased awareness of the movie across all age groups. Since NPD’s
last report in July, adult awareness of the movie increased to 65
percent in September from 50 percent in July, while children’s
awareness increased to76 percent in September from 65 percent in
July.
Trailers have captured an enthusiastic audience for Harry
Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. After seeing them, 42 percent
of children and 18 percent of adults think the movie is going to be
"great" and are anxious to see it. While adults are a little less
enthusiastic about the movie, 32 percent think the movie will be "pretty
good" and want to see it.
"We’ve seen interest in the movie increase steadily. Harry Potter
has the potential to be a real family event that captures the
imagination of both kids and adults," said Christina Charasse,
senior account manager, NPDFunworld. "Harry Potter and the
Sorcerer’s Stone is pure fantasy and provides an escape from
today’s harsh realities, but at the same time its hero, Harry Potter,
has to fight a very powerful and evil enemy, and I think many people
can relate to this now more than ever before."
