NPD Study Finds Internet Users Multi-Tasking During The Super Bowl

In Super Bowl XXXIV Fashion, EDS Wins By A Yard, Edging Out

PORT WASHINGTON, NEW YORK, February 7, 2000– For some Internet users the much- hyped online advertisements were not enough to quench their thirst for the Net during the Super Bowl. Twenty-two percent of Internet users who watched the Super Bowl were online as well, according to a survey conducted by NPD Online Research, a division of market research information provider The NPD Group, Inc. Twelve percent said they navigated to an advertiser’s site during or after the game. Of those who visited an advertiser site, 58% reported that they shopped.

Although there was no decisive winner, the respondents’ favorite commercial was the Electronic Data Systems “herding cats” garnering 14% of the vote. This was followed by Budweiser’s “dog’s worst day” (9%) and FedEx’s “Wizard of Oz” (8%). Both males and females agreed that their favorite ad was Electronic Data Systems’ “herding cats.”
